At 6.9 metres long, the Sonata is an ideal small racing cruiser with a fixed keel; alternatively, the lifting keel option gives it a versatility to cruise shallow waters. Designed by David Thomas, some 400 Sonatas were built by Hunter Boats over twenty years from the mid 1970s.
Parkstone Yacht Club is delighted to welcome 18 teams to compete in an eleven race series in both the open waters of Poole Bay and the Top Triangle of Poole Harbour. A strong contingent has made the long journey from the north of England and Wales to join their southern rivals.
Notable amongst the crews are World and National Champions. Many teams are accustomed to winning the silver ware, all of which bodes well for a tight championship.
During the week, the winds can be expected to arise from all quarters, generally averaging 10 knots, testing the skills of all the competitors. Parkstone Yacht Club’s Race Officer Bryan Drake can be expected to set good courses throughout each of the days from the Club’s new committee boat Golden Dolphin.
With scrutineering completed on Saturday, the first three races commence in Poole Bay on Sunday 10th September.
