Hi all
With the new sailing season about to start, some of the fleet will have bought new sails and may wish to get them signed onto their Boat Certificate, particularly if they are entering the UKFFA Championship series and/ or the Worlds, Nationals and International regatta at WPNSA.
With this in mind Mervyn has asked me to clarify what is involved in “signing the sails “ onto the boat certificate.:
Full sail Measurement: i.e. if the sails have not been measured by the sail makers in house measurer. This entails physical measurement and check vs the class rules for the sails by an RYA qualified sail measurer. The sail is then signed using an RYA sail measurement sticker (equivalent to the ISAF sticker used by the sail makers in house measurers). Then the serial number is entered onto the boat certificate and the sail and the certificate is then signed by the measurer ensuring correlation between sail and certificate serial numbers and signatures.
In house measured sails: If the sails have been bought measured “in house” (which most of the more popular class sail makers do) then they should have an ISAF sticker which must have been signed by the ISAF measurer. It is then necessary to register the Sails onto the Boat Certificate. This requires an RYA qualified sail measurer to check that the sail has been measured and has a signed ISAF sticker on it, then to enter the sail serial number as is on the ISAF sticker, or sail sequence number as used by the boat owner on their sails, onto the certificate and sign both sail and certificate.
If you need sails measured and / or signed onto your boat certificate Alan Baker and myself are RYA qualified sail measurers and we can help you. Just contact us by email, Whatsapp or phone..
Good luck for the New Season
Steve
