Supplementary Sailing Instructions PYC ILCA Monday Series (the “PYC ILCA Monday SSI”)
1. Rules
1.2. Rule Changes:
1.2.4. Personal flotation devices: RRS 40.1 applies to all competitors. This changes SI 16.6.
1.2.5. Races shall be started by using the following signals.Times will be taken from the start of the sound signals. The absence of a visual signal may be disregarded. This changes RRS 26.

1.2.6. A boat which does not start within three minutes of the starting signal will be scored Did Not Start without a hearing. This changes RRS A4 and A5.
1.2.7. The two-turns penalty applicable to Part 2 of RRS is replaced with the One-Turn penalty. This changes RRS 44.1.
1.2.8. Any boat which is behind the body of the fleet may at the discretion of the Race Committee be awarded the finishing score of its observed position on the course. This changes RRS 28.1, RRS 35 and SI 13.6.Boats so instructed shall (between races) sail directly to the start/finish area or (after second race) return to shore.
1.2.9. Distinguishing numbers: A boat may carry on her mainsail a sail number other than that required by RRS 77 provided the number is recorded on the tally sheet prior to going afloat and provided the number is unique for that days racing and permitted by the Race Committee. This changes RRS 77.A change of rig (ILCA class) shall count as a separate entry, except with the express permission of the Race Committee.
3. Communications with Competitors
3.4. Communications with Competitors may be made afloat either orally or in writing on a white board.
3.5. To alert boats afloat that a communication will be made afloat, flag L may be displayed with one or more sound signals.
4. Signals Made Ashore
4.6. Starts will be from a Committee Vessel stationed in the vicinity of the leeward mark.There may be no signal ashore.This changes SI 4.1, 4.2 4.3 4.4 and 4.5.
5. Schedule of races
5.3. ILCA Monday:
5.3.1. There will be a maximum number of two races per day, sailed back-to-back.
5.3.2. The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race is 18:57 local time.
5.3.3. The target time for the first boat to sail the coarse in each race is 30 minutes
7. Courses
7.3. The default course will be an Ad Hoc Triangle-Sausage (“T/S”) course.
7.4. Alternative courses may be Sausage-Triangle (“S/T”) or Windward-Leeward (“W/L”) or any other Ad Hoc course as the Race Committee may indicate.
8. Signalling the course to be sailed
8.6. ILCA Monday:
8.6.1. Indicator boards may be used.This changes SI 8.1.
8.6.2. Marks may be moveable inflatable marks or fixed marks or any combination.
8.6.3. The first mark will be the indicated mark furthest to windward of the Committee Vessel at the Warning Signal
8.6.4. The default T/S course will consist of three marks laid to a triangular plan. On laps 1 and 3 (odd numbered laps) the marks will be rounded in order First Mark, Second Mark, Third Mark. On laps 2 and 4 (even numbered laps) the marks will be rounded First Mark, Third Mark.
8.6.5. When
S/T is indicated, the course will consist of three marks laid to a triangular plan. On laps 1 and 3 (odd numbered laps) the marks will be rounded in order First Mark, Third Mark. On laps 2 and 4 (even numbered laps) the marks will be rounded First Mark, Second Mark, Third Mark.
8.6.6 When W/L course is indicated, the course to be sailed will consist of two marks, rounded in order First Mark, Second Mark.
8.6.7. All marks shall be left to port unless the Race Committee indicates otherwise.If set, a starboard hand course is the mirror image of the equivalent port-hand course.
8.6.8. S/T and T/S courses will be a maximum of four laps. W/L courses shall continue until shortened.
12. The start
12.8. Gate starts:the following system shall apply:
12.8.1. The anchored Committee Vessel or alternatively a dan buoy with an orange flag will constitute the Start Mark at the leeward end of the starting line.
12.8.2. Shortly before the starting signal the Gate Boat will position herself near the Start Mark.
12.8.3. At or after the starting signal the Gate Boat will start by sailing away from the Start Mark travelling at full speed, close-hauled on port tack leaving the Start Mark to port.
12.8.4. The Gate Boat will maintain her close-hauled course until released by the Race Committee. The gate boat is released once all boats in that race have started or one minute after the starting signal for that race. The Race Committee may make a sound signal one minute after the starting signal.
12.8.5. The starting line for all other boats will be between the Start Mark and the centre of the stern of the Gate Boat after the Gate Boat has left the Start Mark astern.
12.8.6. Boats other than the Gate Boat shall start by crossing the starting line on starboard tack after the starting signal and before the Gate closes.
12.8.7. Gate closure:the Gate closes one minute after the starting signal, indicated by a sound signal, at which point the Gate Boat may tack.
12.8.8. A boat not having correctly started which is on the course side of the Gate Boat shall not cross the starting line from the course side.
12.8.9. A boat which has not started correctly, for example because she was on the course side of the Gate Boat or had not crossed the line before the gate closed, must return to the pre-start side by rounding the Start Mark, leaving it on her port side before sailing the leg to the first mark.
12.8.10. Interfering with the Gate Boat:after the preparatory signal until the gate closes, all boats shall keep clear of the Gate Boat and give the Gate Boat room to sail to the Start Mark and then to sail the course to the first mark.
12.8.11. If a boat impedes or hits the Gate Boat and is identified, she will be disqualified without a hearing, even if the race is restarted, re-sailed, or rescheduled. However, a boat may participate in the restarted race providing she notifies the race committee prior to the warning signal that she intends to protest another boat and/or request redress in connection with the incident. If she sails in the race and does not file a valid protest or request for redress, she shall be scored DNE. If her protest is dismissed or her request for redress is denied, she shall be scored DSQ. This changes RRS 36, 62.2, 63.1, and A5.
12.8.12. The Gate Boat for the first race of the series of each class will be nominated by the Race Committee.
12.8.13. The Gate Boat for the subsequent races will be the third placed ILCA in the previous race for that class, except as specified by SIs 12.8.14.
12.8.14. If the Gate Boat determined by the relevant previous race has already been a Gate Boat in a race, the Gate Boat will be the next placed ILCA 7 or ILCA 6 respectively in the preceding race, which has not already sailed as Gate Boat in a race.
12.8.15. If the Race Committee is unable for any reason to determine the Gate Boat according to SIs 12.8.13 and 12.8.14, the Race Committee may nominate a Gate Boat using its sole discretion.
13. The Finish
13.7. ILCA Monday finish
13.7.1. The finishing line will be the line between the final mark and the steering wheel of the Committee Vessel except if the Committee Vessel is not present the line will be the imaginary line the course requires boats to cross drawn at a right angle to the direction from the previous mark.
13.7.2. If the Committee Vessel is not on station at the finish, finishing positions will be determined by the Race Committee in the most equitable manner available, including consideration of positions at previous marks and evidence from third parties.In case of doubt the boat nearest the mark is considered in front.
14. Time limits
14.8. ILCA Monday time limits
14.8.1 RRS 35 shall apply.This changes SI 14.1.The Mark 1 Time Limit, Race Time Limit and the Finishing Window are shown in the table below.

14.8.2. If no boat has passed the first mark within the Mark 1 Time Limit or completed the race within the Race Time Limit, the race may be abandoned at the sole discretion of the Race Committee.
14.8.3. Boats not finishing within the Finishing Window shall be scored Did Not Finish without a hearing.This changes RRS 35, RRS A5.
